Looking to rent a saree jacket?
Many people search for a saree jacket to rent, so we want to be clear: we do not rent jackets separately. When you rent a bridal saree from us, the complete saree comes with its jacket, adjusted to your measurements. If you have your own saree, bring it with the jacket piece and we will stitch a new jacket for you, from Rs. 15,000, to keep. If you are renting one of our sarees and want a jacket made just for you, we supply the fabric and make it new as First Rent, also from Rs. 15,000.
A new jacket is often the better choice anyway. A rented jacket has been shaped for someone else and can only be adjusted so far, while a new one is cut for your body from the start. Because it is yours, you can wear it again with the same saree or restyle it later.
Jacket styles we make
The jacket sets the shape of the whole saree look. These are the details brides and their families ask for most often:
Sleeves
- Puff sleeves for a soft, romantic look that photographs beautifully.
- Sheer and striped sheer sleeves for a light, modern finish.
- Organza and ruffle sleeves when you want movement and volume.
- Beeralu lace sleeves for a traditional Sri Lankan touch.
- Long sleeves for a graceful, covered look, and a favourite for bridesmaids.
- Off-shoulder lace sleeves for Indian-style bridal and going-away blouses.

Necklines
Boat necks give a clean, elegant line and suit heavier jewellery, while V-necks lengthen the neck and frame a pendant. We will suggest a neckline that balances your jewellery, hairstyle and the embellishment on the jacket.
Peplum and structured jackets
A peplum jacket gives a defined, modern waist and is a popular choice for contemporary Kandyan bridal looks. Structured jackets need precise measurements, which is why every jacket we make is stitched to your own measurements rather than adjusted from a standard size.

Embellishment
From fine lace and pearls to sequins, beading and gold embroidery, the amount of handwork is up to you. Heavier embellishment catches evening lighting, while lighter detail keeps a jacket comfortable for a long day.
Kandyan jacket or Indian blouse?
A Kandyan bridal jacket is structured and close-fitting, designed to sit perfectly under the frilled waist and shoulder drape of the Osariya. Small differences in fit show clearly in photographs, so measurements and fittings matter.
An Indian-style blouse is usually shorter and lighter, worn with a pleated drape. It suits Indian bridal sarees, going-away looks and many bridesmaid styles. Not sure which you need? Bring your saree or a photo of it, and we will advise.
How we make your saree jacket
- Consultation: visit our Maharagama studio with your saree and jacket piece, or message us on WhatsApp with your occasion and date.
- Design: share reference photos from Pinterest or Instagram. We help you choose the neckline, sleeves and embellishment.
- Measurements: we take detailed measurements so the jacket is cut for you.
- Stitching and handwork: our team stitches the jacket and adds the embellishment you chose.
- Fitting: you try the jacket on so we can check the fit and comfort.
- Collect: your finished jacket is ready to wear, and it is yours to keep.
Based on your wedding date, we give you a timetable for measurements, fittings and collection, so you always know what happens next.
Tips for a jacket that fits perfectly
- Bring the undergarments you plan to wear on the day to your measurements and fitting.
- Raise your arms, sit and turn during the fitting. A good jacket stays comfortable as you move.
- Bring the saree you will wear, or a photo, so colours and embellishment match.
- Decide on your jewellery early. A heavy necklace may suit a simpler neckline.
- Avoid planning a big change in weight close to the event, as structured jackets are fitted closely.
Jackets for the whole wedding party
Many families have jackets made for more than one look. We make bridal jackets, blouses for homecoming and going-away sarees, and matching blouses for bridesmaids, including a universal blouse design that suits every body type. See our bridesmaid sarees and custom bridal sarees.

Bringing your ideas to the consultation
You do not need a finished design. Most people arrive with a few screenshots, a colour or a sleeve style they like. It helps to bring:
- Your saree and the jacket piece (fabric), or a clear photo of them in daylight.
- Two or three reference photos of jackets you like, and one you do not, so we understand your taste.
- Your event date and the time of day, since evening and daytime events suit different finishes.
- The jewellery you plan to wear, if you already have it.
From there we sketch the options with you and confirm the price before any work begins.
How much does a custom saree jacket cost?
When you bring your saree and jacket piece, our stitching charge starts from Rs. 15,000. A new jacket for one of our rental sarees, made as First Rent with our fabric, also starts from Rs. 15,000. The final price depends on the sleeve style and how much embellishment and handwork you choose. Send us a photo of the design you like on WhatsApp and we will give you a quote.
Choosing the fabric for your jacket
You bring the jacket piece, and the fabric decides how a jacket holds its shape and how it feels after a long day. If you have not bought it yet, talk to us first. A few points we look at:
- Structure: Kandyan bridal jackets need a fabric that holds a clean, fitted shape, especially at the shoulders and waist.
- Comfort: lighter fabrics and linings keep you cooler during long ceremonies and receptions.
- Matching the saree: we compare colour and sheen against your saree so the jacket and drape look like one outfit.
- Embellishment weight: heavy beading needs a fabric strong enough to carry it without pulling or puckering.
Caring for your jacket
Because the jacket is yours to keep, a little care keeps it ready for the next occasion:
- Hang or fold it loosely in a breathable cotton cloth, not a sealed plastic bag.
- Keep it dry and away from direct sunlight to protect colours and embellishment.
- Place tissue over beaded or sequinned areas so they do not press into the fabric.
- If it needs cleaning, use a dry cleaner that handles embellished garments.
If your size changes or you want to restyle the jacket later, talk to us about what can be altered.
What brides say
So flexible and stress free from day one! As promised, all material selections and fit-on dates were perfectly scheduled. My Kandyan was a first fit-on, and everything from the material to the jacket and Kandyan design was exactly as I wished.
