Homecoming & Going-Away Sarees: First Rent from Rs. 35,000

Your homecoming saree and going-away saree deserve the same care as your bridal look. At Lassana Saree in Maharagama we make them brand new for you as First Rent, from Rs. 35,000. The saree is designed around your ideas and stitched to your measurements, you are the first to wear it, and you return it after the event. You get a fresh, made-for-you look without paying the full price of buying a new saree.

Why First Rent for your homecoming?

We do not keep a rental rack of homecoming and going-away sarees. Instead, every one is made new. That means you are not limited to whatever happens to be in stock in your size: you choose the colour, the drape and the jacket, and the saree is cut for you.

Because you return the saree after the event, First Rent costs far less than having a designer saree made to keep. It is the same idea as our First Rent Kandyan bridal sarees, applied to your second look. If you would rather keep your homecoming saree, we can make it to order with our fabrics, from Rs. 55,000.

Homecoming saree or going-away saree: what is the difference?

A homecoming saree is usually more colourful than the bridal saree and a little lighter, worn for the celebration hosted by the groom’s family. Rich colours, embroidery and a polished jacket are popular, and many brides choose a drape that complements the jewellery they wore on the wedding day.

A going-away saree is the outfit you change into as you leave the wedding venue. It is often simpler still, so it is comfortable for travel and photographs on the way out. An Indian-style drape is a popular choice because it is light and easy to move in.

Some brides need both, others only one. We will help you decide at the consultation, and plan them together with your bridal saree so the three looks feel connected.

Choosing colours and styles

  • Start from your bridal saree: if your wedding look is off-white or ivory, a homecoming in a strong colour gives your photographs variety.
  • Think about the venue and time: deeper colours and richer embellishment suit evening receptions, while lighter shades and fabrics feel fresh in daytime.
  • Keep your jewellery in mind: choose colours and metal tones that work with the jewellery you plan to wear.
  • Pick the jacket carefully: sleeves and neckline change the whole look. See our saree jacket styles for ideas.

How First Rent works for your homecoming saree

  1. Consultation: visit our Maharagama studio or message us on WhatsApp with your wedding and homecoming dates.
  2. Design: share reference photos and colours you like. We help you choose the drape, jacket and embellishment.
  3. Measurements: we take detailed measurements so the saree and jacket are made for you.
  4. Making and fittings: we source the materials, stitch the saree and check the fit with you before it is finished.
  5. Collect: collect your saree the day before the event (two days before if you live far away), with a refundable deposit.
  6. Return: return it the day after the event (within two days if you live far away). A dry-cleaning charge applies.

We confirm the price with you before materials are bought, so there are no surprises later.

Kandyan or Indian drape for your homecoming?

Both work beautifully, and the choice usually comes down to your wedding look and personal style:

  • Kandyan (Osariya) drape: a natural choice if you want your homecoming to feel traditional, and a striking contrast when the saree is in a rich colour instead of the off-white of the wedding day.
  • Indian drape: lighter and quicker to wear, and a good fit if you wore a Kandyan saree at the Poruwa and want a different silhouette for the second event.
  • Jacket or blouse: the jacket shapes either drape. Puff, sheer, organza or lace sleeves and a boat or V-neck change the look completely.

At the consultation we can show you how each drape sits and help you decide what suits your body, your jewellery and the venue.

Dressing your bridesmaids for the homecoming

If your bridesmaids will join you at the homecoming, plan their colours at the same time. Bridesmaid sarees can be rented from our collection from Rs. 10,000, made as First Rent sets or made to order to keep. See our bridesmaid saree rent page for colours, fabrics and blouse styles.

Plan all your wedding looks together

Choosing your bridal, homecoming and going-away sarees at the same time makes it much easier to keep colours, jewellery and styling consistent across your photographs. It also saves you extra trips. A simple approach is to choose your bridal saree first, then design the homecoming saree around it.

Explore your options for the wedding day: Kandyan bridal saree rent from Rs. 25,000, First Rent Kandyan sarees from Rs. 65,000, or a custom bridal saree to keep.

What to bring to your consultation

  • Your wedding and homecoming dates, and the venue and time of each event.
  • A photo of your bridal saree, or the colour and style you have chosen for it.
  • Two or three reference photos of homecoming or going-away looks you like.
  • The jewellery you plan to wear, or photos of it.
  • The shoes you will wear, or a pair of the same heel height, so we can set the saree length.

Do not worry if you only have a rough idea. Most brides decide the details step by step during the design stage.

Deposit, cleaning and care

As with all our First Rent sarees, a refundable deposit is taken when you collect the saree. A dry-cleaning charge applies when you return it, and if the saree is damaged, a deduction is made from the deposit depending on the extent of the damage. A few simple habits help you get your full deposit back:

  • Keep perfume, make-up and food away from the fabric where you can.
  • Hang the saree loosely after the event rather than leaving it folded in a bag.
  • Tell us about any marks when you return it rather than trying to clean them yourself.

When should you start?

Because each homecoming saree is made new, give yourself time. We recommend contacting us at least 3 to 4 months before your wedding, the same as for our First Rent bridal sarees. If your date is sooner, message us and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

What brides say

I had both my wedding saree and homecoming saree made by Lassana Saree, and choosing them was one of the best decisions I made. Ishara and her team were warm, personal, and supportive throughout, paying attention to every detail and making me feel truly special.
