Why have your bridal saree made to order?
Renting suits many brides, but some want a saree that belongs to them. A made-to-order saree is a keepsake you can pass down, wear again for an anniversary or rework later. It also gives you complete freedom: any colour, any sleeve, any level of embellishment, built around your body shape rather than adjusted from someone else’s pattern.
If you love the idea of a custom design but do not need to keep it, our First Rent service gives you a brand-new saree made for you at a lower, rental price.
What we can make for you
Kandyan bridal sarees
Traditional off-white and ivory Osariya with gold motifs, or modern designs with lace, pearls, sequins, sheer or puff sleeves and peplum jackets. We design the jacket and the drape together so the proportions suit you.
Indian bridal sarees
Indian-style bridal drapes in lace, sequins and embroidered fabrics, including off-shoulder and lace-sleeve blouses.
Homecoming and going-away sarees
Many brides have their homecoming saree made with us at the same time as their wedding saree, so both looks are planned together and finished to the same standard. A homecoming saree to keep starts from Rs. 55,000, or from Rs. 35,000 as First Rent.
Bridal frocks and lehengas
Custom bridal frocks for a second-day or Western look, and lehengas for a regal alternative, made to your measurements on request. Both are offered as First Rent pieces, made new for you and returned after the wedding: bridal frocks from Rs. 55,000 and lehengas from Rs. 45,000.
Bridesmaid sarees to buy
If your bridal party wants to keep their outfits, we design and tailor bridesmaid sarees for each member to buy. See our bridesmaid sarees page.

How a custom bridal saree is made
- Consultation. You share your wedding date, venue and the look you love. We listen to your ideas on colour, beadwork and mood, and look at your reference photos together.
- Design. Our designers turn your ideas into a concept, then advise on cuts, necklines and embellishments that flatter your figure. We refine it until you are completely happy.
- Measurements. We take detailed measurements in the studio, or guide you through online measurements on a video call if you live abroad.
- Sourcing. We personally select and buy the fabrics, laces and stones that match your design.
- Poplin fit-on. A draft jacket in plain poplin lets us perfect the fit before the final fabric is cut.
- Making and finishing. Beading, stonework, tailoring and clean finishing on the real fabric.
- Final fit-on and handover. You try the finished saree. If no further changes are needed, we hand it over to you that day to keep.
Test drapes and alterations are part of the process, not an extra. Our aim is a saree that moves well and feels comfortable from the ceremony to the reception.

Choosing fabrics and embellishments
Fabric and embellishment decide how your saree looks in photographs and how it feels after many hours of wear. A few points we discuss with every bride:
- Time of day: heavy sequins and stones catch evening and ballroom lighting; lighter lace, pearls and embroidery often look softer in daylight.
- Climate and comfort: Sri Lankan weddings can be warm. A heavily beaded jacket looks beautiful but adds weight, so we balance detail with comfort.
- Photography: fine lace and tonal embroidery photograph elegantly, while very shiny fabrics can reflect flash.
- Your jewellery: a richly embellished neckline needs simpler jewellery, and the reverse is also true.
You do not need to know any of this before you come in. Our team will guide you through it during the design stage.
Working with us from overseas
Distance does not stop you having your bridal saree made in Sri Lanka. We have designed sarees for brides in the UK through video calls and online measurements. You see the design and progress on WhatsApp, and the saree is ready when you arrive. One of those brides chose a pastel blue bridal saree, a good example of how far a custom design can go beyond the usual off-white.
They’re incredibly talented. Even though I’m in the UK, everything was done smoothly over a video call, from online measurements to the stunning masterpiece they created. I’m obsessed with my pastel blue bridal saree. Highly recommend Lassana Saree, the quality, care, and price are unmatched.

Bring your own fabric
Already have the fabric you love, or a family saree you want to use? If you supply all the fabric and materials, we design and stitch your bridal saree to your measurements, and tailoring starts from Rs. 35,000. You still get the full process: consultation, design advice, the poplin fit-on and the final fitting. Bring your fabric to the consultation so we can check the quantity and suggest how to use it best.
If you would rather we supply everything, made-to-order bridal sarees start from Rs. 120,000. The final price depends on the fabric and embellishment you choose, and we confirm it after your consultation.
What affects the price of a custom bridal saree
When we supply the materials, made-to-order bridal sarees start from Rs. 120,000. The final price is confirmed after your consultation, because it depends on choices you make:
- Fabric for the saree and jacket.
- Embellishment: the amount of beading, stones, pearls, sequins and lace, and how much is done by hand.
- Design complexity, such as layered sleeves, a long tail or a structured peplum.
- Extra pieces, such as a matching homecoming saree or bridesmaid sarees.
We confirm the full price with you before buying any materials. If the quote is more than you planned, we can suggest changes to the design, or compare it with First Rent, which starts from Rs. 65,000, and rental, which starts from Rs. 25,000.

Caring for your saree after the wedding
A made-to-order saree is yours to keep, so it is worth storing it well:
- Store it folded in a breathable cotton or muslin cloth, not in a sealed plastic bag.
- Keep it somewhere dry and away from direct sunlight to prevent yellowing and damp.
- Lay tissue between folds over heavy beadwork so stones and sequins do not press into the fabric.
- Refold it in a different way every few months so permanent creases do not form.
- If it needs cleaning, use a dry cleaner that handles embellished bridal wear.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a custom bridal saree cost in Sri Lanka?
At Lassana Saree, if you supply all the fabric and materials, tailoring starts from Rs. 35,000. If we supply the materials, made-to-order bridal sarees start from Rs. 120,000, and the final price depends on fabric, embellishment and design. If you prefer not to keep the saree, First Rent starts from Rs. 65,000.
How long does it take to make a bridal saree?
We recommend starting at least 3 to 4 months before your wedding. This leaves time for design, sourcing, the poplin fit-on and the final fitting without rushing.
Can you make a Kandyan saree in a colour other than white?
Yes. A custom saree can be made in the colour you want. We have made sarees such as a pastel blue bridal saree for a bride in the UK.
Can I have my saree made if I live abroad?
Yes. We work with overseas brides through video calls and online measurements, with updates on WhatsApp.
When do I receive my saree?
For made-to-order sarees, we hand the saree over at the final fit-on once no further changes are needed. It is yours to keep.
Do you also make lehengas and bridal frocks?
Yes. Lehengas and bridal frocks are made to your measurements on request as First Rent pieces: lehengas from Rs. 45,000 and bridal frocks from Rs. 55,000.
Do I need to bring a finished design idea?
No. Many brides arrive with only a colour or a few photos they like. During the free consultation we show you fabrics, lace and embellishment options and sketch the design with you, so a clear idea forms step by step.
Can my bridesmaids’ sarees be made to match?
Yes. Bridesmaid sarees and blouses can be made to order to buy, or made as First Rent pieces, in colours chosen to complement your bridal saree. We can plan them together at the same consultation.
